The origin of garlic dates back several centuries in Central Asia; the scientific name (Allium sativum) comes from a variety from this area. The first indications of the use of garlic for medicinal purposes date back to Ancient Egypt. Its healing abilities, according to the papyri, it is believed that this food came to be considered a sacred icon; in Greece it was consumed to prevent typhus and cholera. The Garlic is used in cooking as a natural flavoring; it has a characteristic fragrance and flavor that usually accompanies several dishes.
